Fredericton – On January 16th, Integrity Commissioner Deschênes issued a report of findings regarding a request for information filed by David Coon, leader of the Green Party of New Brunswick on February 2, 2017.
“Last year I filed for access to information regarding a lease agreement between the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure and Irving Oil for the new visitor information centre in St. Stephen,” said Coon.
The Department originally withheld the square footage, the length of the lease, and the amount of rent paid. Through informal processes with the Commissioner they released some of this information in December of 2017. They continued to withhold the annual rental rate, which the Commissioner has advised they should release.
“My request to DTI should have been straightforward and instead it has been a year of fighting for information that should already be public,” said Coon. “The government secrecy around how it is spending public money has to end.”
Coon is currently in court pursuing financial details of contracts governing P3 nursing homes across the province associated with another access to information request that was denied by the Department of Social Development.

Fredericton – Le 16 janvier, le commissaire à l’intégrité Deschênes a publié un rapport des conclusions de l’enquête relatif à une demande d’information déposée par David Coon, chef du Parti vert du Nouveau-Brunswick, le 2 février 2017.
«L’année dernière, j’ai déposé une demande d’information en ce qui concerne la convention de bail entre le ministère des Transports et Infrastructure et Irving Oil pour le nouveau centre d’information touristique à St. Stephen,» a déclaré M. Coon.
À l’origine, le Ministère a retenu la superficie en pieds carrés, la durée du bail et le montant du loyer payé. Suite à des processus informels avec le commissaire, une partie de ces détails ont été publiés en décembre 2017. Ils ont continué de retenir le taux de loyer annuel que le commissaire avait recommandé de divulguer.
«Ma demande au ministère aurait dû être simple, mais ça plutôt été une année de lutte pour l’information qui devrait déjà être publique», dit M. Coon. «Les secrets gouvernementaux à propos des dépenses de fonds publics doit cesser.»
M. Coon poursuit présentement devant les tribunaux les détails financiers des contrats dirigeant les foyers de soins partenariat public privé (dits P3) à l’échelle de la province associés à une autre demande d’information refusée par le ministère du Développement social.
