Fredericton – David Coon, MLA for Fredericton South and Leader of the Green Party of New Brunswick issued the following statement in recognition of World Aids Day on Thursday, December 1.
“Today is a day for nations and communities across the globe to come together to re-commit to HIV prevention. This year, the theme is Hands Up for #HIV Prevention. I’d like to recognize the many non-profit organizations, their staff and volunteers who continue their work in helping prevent the spread of HIV in New Brunswick. These individuals and groups also do vital work supporting those living with HIV-AIDS who still face significant stigma.
New Brunswick has one of the lowest rates of infection in Canada. Other parts of the world continue to face great challenges associated with HIV-AIDS. The local chapter of Grandmothers helping Grandmothers raise funds for grandmothers in Africa who are raising their grandchildren, orphaned by AIDS.
We must continue the work to prevent the spread of HIV and confront the stigma faced by those living with HIV-AIDS.”

« Aujourd’hui c’est une journée ou les diverses nations et communautés autour du monde se rassemblent pour se réengager à la prévention du VIH. Cette année le thème est Levons la main pour la #préventionVIH.
J’aimerais souligner les efforts des divers organismes à buts non lucratifs, les employés et les bénévoles qui continuent leur travail afin d’aider à prévenir la propagation du VIH au Nouveau-Brunswick. Ces individus et ces groupes font un excellent travail en supportant ceux et celles vivant avec le VIH/sida qui doivent encore faire face à une terrible stigmatisation.
Le Nouveau-Brunswick à un des taux d’infection les plus faibles au Canada. Simultanément, les taux d’infection continuent d’augmenter dans d’autres parties du monde. Le chapitre local de Grand–mère aidant (Grandmothers helping Grandmothers) lève des fonds pour les grands-mères en Afrique qui élève leurs petit-enfants rendus orphelins en raison du sida.
Nous devons continuer le travail de prévention du VIH et confronter le stigma vécu par les gens vivant avec le VIH/sida. »
